Born in the city of Lagos Nigeria, David Effiong Idioh from the southern region of West Africa (Akwa-Ibom state) started up as a young self-taught piano player. He joined his family church choir at the age of 10 which is where he truly developed a love of gopsel music.
In 2000 he joined the Redeemed Christian Church of God Choir, where he began to lead in worship and praise songs for the Church before being made MD in 2004. In 2012 David went on to study for a diploma Music Theory at the Music Society Of Nigeria (MUSON centre); an affiliate of the The Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music in the UK. That same year he released a gospel music album High In All the Earth.
In 2013 after he was offered a full tuition fee scholarship award by the Stepping Stones group in Ireland. David went on to complete the Masters in Community Music at the University of Limerick. It was during this time that David got involved in facilitating groups right around Ireland and following on from graduating in 2014 he became MD of the Limerick Gospel Choir, a role which he still holds today.
David has attended GR on many occasions but this is his first time working with us as a workshop facilitator. His love of gospel music shines through when leading a group and we are thrilled to have him sharing his knowledge of gospel music’s African roots with us at this years festival.
