We are thrilled to be able to bring the Gospel Rising Music Festival back to Galway this year. The city is well regarded for its energy, warm welcome and vibrant cultural scene and in 2017 it delivered in every way!
Whether you’ve been once, to all eight previous festivals or never before, we can’t wait to see you in Galway! Every year, we gather your feedback after the festival and channel your ideas and wishes into the following year. This year’s timetable looks a little different to previous years so have a read through and get to know what’s what before you get booking your workshops.
Friday night has the biggest change this year with the annual big festival gig as the opening act of the weekend at The Black Box Theatre featuring some of the choirs attending the festival. Afterwards, we’re headed to the Róisín Dubh for a special edition Sing Along Social so you can sing and dance your heart out!
Saturday from early until late
Saturday is the big day of workshops. There will be 3 sessions of workshops throughout Saturday, each of which you will book a place in when booking your weekend pass.
Sessions will include choral, soloist, small group technical workshops and choreography workshops each of which will hone in on specific aspects of gospel music. Workshops run for 1 hour and 45 mins each, are sometimes intense but really enjoyable and rewarding. Come ready to jump straight into the music and get the most out of all of our wonderful facilitators.
St Nicholas Church in the heart of Galway City Centre will be the venue for our lunchtime concert featuring some of the choirs attending the festival.
You’ll have some time on Saturday evening to catch your breath before we take you out for a very special night with the Gospel Rising Gang – bring your dancing shoes!
After a little lie-in, we’ll be headed to beautiful Galway Cathedral for a special Gospel Mass where everyone attending gets to take part and bring the joy of gospel music to the local congregation.
On every Sunday of the festival, musical directors and assistants are invited to come together for lunch and a discussion at the director’s forum. This is where all choir leaders get the chance to come together to meet one another, chat and share the highs and lows of their experiences being involved in the gospel music scene in Ireland.
As ever, we’ll be rounding off the weekend with our usual mega group workshop which is shaping up to be pretty special!
Terms and conditions apply!
Numbers attending each workshop are capped in order to make sure that attendee’s get the most out of the session and no one gets lost (can hide) in the crowd! We are also limiting each participant to one soloist workshop. This is a policy which we have had for several years due to the huge demands for soloist workshops at previous festivals, in order to give as many people as possible the opportunity to have access to these master-class style workshops.
Tiny bits and pieces are still to be finalised, but we’re good to go and we are delighted to say that this years’ facilitators are dying to get in there and get everyone singing. Check out all our facilitator bios and workshop blurbs to find out more!
Have fun picking your workshops, and we look forward to seeing (and hearing) you at the festival!
