Facilitator: Grace Savage
Our Beat boxing workshop was the stand out surprise of Gospel Rising Music Festival 2016, so we’re bringing back this unique style to GR 2017. Originally we had MC Zani arranged for this workshop, but unfortunately he now is unable to make it. But this just means we get to meet another award winning Beat Boxer, Grace Savage.
Beat boxing is a form of vocal percussion primarily involving the art of mimicking drum machines using ones mouth, lips, tongue, and voice. It may also involve vocal imitation of turntablism, and other musical instruments. Beat boxing today is connected with hip hop culture, often referred to as “the fifth element” of hip-hop, although it is not limited to the hip hop movement. Beat boxing has found a new audience in recent years with the growth of A Capella groups who use the technique to enhance and build their sound. It is a technique which can add great interest and fun to choral music and one which our participants in 2016 completely embraced.
