Beatboxing is a form of vocal percussion primarily involving the art of mimicking drum machines using ones mouth, lips, tongue and voice. It my also involve vocal imitation of turntables and other musical instruments.
Beatboxing is today connected with hip hop culture, often referred to as ‘the fifth element’ of hip-hop, although it is not limited to the hip hop movement. Beatboxing has found a new audience in recent years with the growth of a capella groups who use the technique to enhance and build their sound. It is a technique which can add great interest and fun to choral music and one which Gospel Rising attendees completely embraced when we brought it to the festival in previous years.
Come and give it a try, you never know you might find a new skill, and you will definitely have fun at this high energy workshop.
