Workshop: Let’s Sing Gospel

A singing and performance workshop for all levels, with one of the UK’s leading gospel choir directors

Facilitator: Audrey Mattis
When: Sunday, 19th June 9.30am-12.30pm
Where: D-Light Studios, Dublin 1
Tickets: €20 excluding booking fees via Eventbrite

This workshop will look at how gospel music has evolved over time and will introduce you to an old-school gospel before moving on to examine a more contemporary gospel choir sound.

To begin with, Audrey will explain how gospel music evolved using a quick study of the “gospelised” spiritual form and its use of blues and pentatonic scales. Next she will explore how vocal techniques like enunciation, articulation, breath and vibrato are used to create the gospel choir sound.

Moving onto a more modern gospel chorus, we will have some fun at “call and response” singing. Learn where (and where not!) to ad lib. Finally we will add some movement and choreography to enhance your gospel choir performance.

This will be a group workshop with a big sound and lots of opportunities to dive into the music and get your gospel groove on.
